COVID-19 AND HOME MOVING
The Government released guidance specific to house moving on 26 March 2020.
While we are committed to assisting clients as best we can in these trying circumstances, we must adhere to the published guidelines. We intend, therefore, to introduce the following practices immediately:
- Where contracts have already been exchanged, and the property you are buying is vacant, the sale should proceed as normal provided removal companies honour their contracts.
- Where contract have been exchanged, and the property you are moving into or the chain involves a property that is occupied, it will be necessary for all parties in the chain to try to reach agreement to defer completion to a future date. This may necessitate exchanging a supplemental agreement.
- Where contracts have not yet been exchanged, we will, subject to our clients’ instructions, progress matters as far as we are able to do so, but contracts will not be exchanged unless there is no chain and the property being bought is empty.
During the pandemic, we continue to operate a skeleton staff in the office and some of our lawyers will be working remotely from home. We ask that you be patient as we deal with the issue arising from the Government’s guidelines.
